What's Our Story?
We all love a good story&mdash;from the characters and the twists and turns&nbsp;of a captivating plot to the dynamics of a conflict and the resolution&nbsp;at the end. Perhaps we love stories because they give us insight into&nbsp;ourselves, animating a deeper sense of meaning in our lives. The Bible&nbsp;is the story of God&rsquo;s love for us. It begins with him creating us out of&nbsp;love, redeeming us by that love, and finally transforming us in his love.
This divine author is love&mdash;an exchange of love within the life of the&nbsp;Blessed Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. What a story!

Bread for the Journey
Just as manna was the bread for the Israelites on their journey to the&nbsp;Promised Land, so the Eucharist is the bread for our journey to heaven.&nbsp;The Eucharist is our daily bread, our sustenance, and our source of&nbsp;every grace and blessing. As Pope Francis highlighted in a homily on&nbsp;Corpus Christi in 2021: &ldquo;To celebrate the Eucharist, we need first to&nbsp;recognize our thirst for God, to sense our need for him, to long for his&nbsp;presence and love, to realize that we cannot go it alone, but need the&nbsp;Food and Drink of eternal life to sustain us on our journey&rdquo; (Corpus&nbsp;Christi, June 6, 2021).

Bread for the Journey - Session 7

At first glance, the opening of Matthew&rsquo;s Gospel hardly seems like a Christmas text. A long list of names &mdash; fathers and sons, kings and exiles &mdash; doesn&rsquo;t stir the heart the way the story of the angels and shepherds does. But it would be a mistake to dismiss or trivialize this text. For the early Church, this passage was essential. It is a core revelation of who Christ is.

It Was His First, Last, and Only Communion 

January 18th, 2026 - The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel:&nbsp;<a href="https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/011826.cfm">John 1:29-34</a>
Our lives all point to something; there is an authority we submit and a direction we take with our actions, our words, our calendars, and our priorities. If someone were to observe you for a month and then write a report on your life, ultimately revealing what your life &ldquo;points&rdquo; toward, what would it reveal?
For many of us, we hope that we would be like John the Baptist and our lives would shout, &ldquo;Behold, the Lamb of God!&rdquo; as we point toward Jesus. But if we are honest, we may realize that this is not always the case. Our calendars point toward work, our priorities point toward recognition, or affirmation, or monetary gain, and our actions may be selfish rather than selfless. There is a constant pull to point toward ourselves rather than to the Lord.&nbsp;
Perhaps John the Baptist realized this danger. He was followed by many and surely some of those followers may have hoped that John was the promised Messiah. Yet, John&rsquo;s public ministry was consistent: His whole life pointed toward Christ. When Jesus began his public ministry, John was not hesitant to direct his followers away from him and toward Jesus.&nbsp;
As we enter into the brief period of Ordinary Time between the Christmas season and Lent, there is a simple reflection we must undertake: Do I point people in my life toward Jesus or does my life point them toward something else? As followers of Jesus, we represent Jesus in our families, at our jobs, and in our communities.&nbsp;
There is an examination we can do before the Blessed Sacrament today, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the areas of our lives where we are not pointing to Christ, but instead are serving another purpose or authority.&nbsp;
What takes up the most time on your calendar? It is normal for our calendar to be filled with many activities, responsibilities, work, and family obligations. What is at the center of your calendar? Are they things that honor your vocation? Do they honor God? Do they reflect who you are as a disciple?
What thoughts preoccupy your mind? Where do you turn when you are bored or have down time?&nbsp;
In conversations, where do you try to draw the focus? Is it toward the other person or to yourself? Do you seek ways to garner praise or affirmation? Do your words and conversations honor God and others?&nbsp;
What do your public and private actions say about you? Do you act in a way, professionally and personally, that honors the role of a disciple of Jesus?&nbsp;
These are not exhaustive questions; they are meant to spark prayer and reflection. These are not condemning questions; they are to help us grow in our walk of holiness.&nbsp;
Our lives all point somewhere. When they point to Jesus something incredible happens - people can come to know the love of the Lord and the freedom of discipleship. Today, as you sit before the Lord, reflect on where your life is pointing and then ask for the grace to become more like John the Baptist, so that all our actions may proclaim, &ldquo;Behold the Lamb of God.&rdquo;
Intention:
For an increase of the light of Christ in us, so that we may proclaim by word and by action that Jesus is the Lord of our lives and so that others may experience His love through us.

National Eucharistic Revival Prayer

These final hours of Advent draw together all the promises we&rsquo;ve been hearing, and today&rsquo;s readings speak of one thing above all: the faithfulness of God.
In the first reading, David wants to do something generous for God. He is living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of the covenant (God&rsquo;s presence among the people) rests in a tent. David&rsquo;s instinct is noble, but the Lord gently corrects him: &ldquo;Should you build me a house to dwell in? It was I who took you from the pasture&hellip;&rdquo; The message is clear. God does not need David to build him a house; rather, God himself will build David a house&mdash;a dynasty, a line of kings, a promise that will not fade.

Throughout history, revival in the Church has been accompanied by a revival of faith in the youth. Teenagers face numerous obstacles and challenges in our world today: rising rates of mental illness, an onslaught of post-Christian values that run contrary to our faith, and a world wracked with violence and indifference. There has never been a better time for young people to become witnesses to the power of Christ’s love and agents of Eucharistic Revival. Teenagers were invited to a unique youth conference experience at the 10th National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis. During the day, they attended these large morning sessions with dynamic Catholic speakers such as Oscar Rivera, Brian Greenfield, and Jackie Francois Angel. In the evening, teenagers joined the entire congregation of the National Eucharistic Congress to be part of the tens of thousands of Catholics in Lucas Oil Stadium for the evening program. This provided an incredible witness to the power of Catholic youth in the Church in the United States as a part of this historic moment.

St. Juan Diego had a great devotion to the Eucharist and made his own little pilgrimage every day, rising before dawn and walking 15 miles to daily Mass. The Cultivate Impact sessions allowed families to learn together, share together, and spend time with each other in a dedicated space. In the evening, families joined the rest of the pilgrims of the 10th National Eucharistic Congress for sessions in Lucas Oil Stadium. Eucharistic Revival happens at the grassroots level, and the domestic Church is an essential part of this movement. The families at this experience were an icnredible witness Eucharistic faith in the home and were empowered to go live mission of the Catholic Church, as a family, in our world.

Just before Christmas, the Church gives us the story of Hannah and her son, Samuel. At first, it may seem far removed from the manger at Bethlehem, yet it prepares our hearts perfectly for the mystery we are about to celebrate. Hannah&rsquo;s story is one of longing fulfilled and gratitude offered. She had prayed for years to conceive, and when the Lord granted her request, she did not cling to the gift. Instead, she returned it to the Giver. In an act of profound faith, she offers her son back to God, saying in effect: "This child belongs to you."
