Friends, today a child is born for us, a son is given to us! Today we rejoice in the birth of Christ our Savior — the eternal Word made flesh, the light that shines in the darkness, God with us. 

The Father’s eternal Word, spoken before time began, has entered the world in time. The Lord who made the stars has chosen to dwell among the poor. The one whom the heavens cannot contain lies in a manger. And in the manger, there is profound symbolism to be found.
