Advent always begins in the dark.

The Church doesn’t turn on all the lights at once. When we bless the Advent wreath today, we light a single candle. One small flame, trembling against the shadows. It’s a small sign that dawn is coming. That’s what this season is about: learning to recognize the first light of God’s new day.
