Today’s psalm gives voice to the deepest longing of the human heart: “Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face, and we shall be saved” (Ps 80:3).
That is the prayer of Advent, and it is the prayer that shaped the life and death of Saint Lucy, whose very name means “light.” She is the saint of sight, not only because of the marvelous legends surrounding her eyes, but because she lived her whole life seeing beyond the world’s darkness to the face of Christ.
